Sie ist intim, traurig, festlich zugleich, berührt die Seele ganz tief.« Apkalnas Lieblingskomponist heißt aber trotzdem ganz klar Johann Sebastian Bach: »Ich sehe Bach als das tägliche Brot an. The Latvian star organist Iveta Apkalna, Titular Organist at Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie and »Artist in Residence« for this hr concert season, also describes it as »a fireworks of emotion. It is intimate, sad and festive at the same time and moves the soul deep inside.« Nevertheless, Apkalna’s favourite composer is still without a doubt Johann Sebastian Bach: »For me Bach is the daily bread. Something to be ›eaten‹ every day and I need it every day.«
